> Graveson, a village of painters

Graveson is the home town of August CHABAUD, one of the fathers of fauvism, and is strongly contributing to develop art in general  through many activities and structures.

As you walk along the streets of this village of painters, you will come across many letter boxes that have been painted by the villagers themselves during the art markets and festivities. It will also be the perfect opportunity to walk in Auguste Chabaud's footsteps as you glance at the many replicas throughout the village . And if the provençal colours are an inspiration, you might even want to stop and unfold your easel, pull out your paint brushes and paint the landscapes and the friendly people of Provence.
The regional museum ofAuguste Chabaud, is now run by the local authority and has done alot towards promoting pictorial art in Graveson, in particular with the permanent art exhibition in the Town Hall. But there are many more events.
You may attend the Fête des Peintres et des Arts ( The Art and Artists's Fair) on the first Sunday of the month of September, le Vendredis des Arts ( Art Fridays)in July and August, le Salon des peintres du dimanche ( The Sunday Painters' Fair) in May or even la fête Pictural & mural (the Pictorial and Mural Fair). The Association of the Gravesonnais Artists have organised many art courses for those interested in learning more about painting and its techniques.
Because the village has built its reputation on promoting art and encouraging artists to spend time in the area, Graveson likes to be known as a "village of painters".
